ROMAN KEMP TEAMS UP WITH DISNEY CRUISE LINE TO LAUNCH NEW CONTEST FOR UK PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS TO WIN

THE ULTIMATE SCHOOL TRIP

• Broadcaster Roman Kemp has taken on the role of honorary supply teacher to inspire UK primary school teachers to participate in the competition

• The victorious teacher, joined by their class, along with family or friends, will embark on a special four-night Disney Cruise aboard the Disney

   Dream during the summer

• This spectacular sailing also offers a series of specially crafted lessons designed exclusively for the winners, as well as a chance to learn from

   Disney professionals

Broadcaster Roman Kemp has teamed up with Disney Cruise Line to help launch an exciting contest aimed at UK-based primary school teachers*, offering them the chance to embark on The Ultimate School Trip with Disney Cruise Line. This new initiative, open for entries now, will whisk one very special UK-based primary school teacher, along with their winning class of students – who will each get to bring up to three family or friends – away on an unforgettable journey aboard the Disney Dream, creating memories that will last a lifetime!

"I'm truly excited to be part of The Ultimate School Trip with Disney Cruise Line because it offers teachers the chance to reward not only themselves but also their students and families," said Roman Kemp, known for championing children’s education and well-being. "Teachers consistently go above and beyond, and they deserve a little something extra. This opportunity can certainly provide them with that."

Roman Kemp, who became an honorary supply teacher aboard the Disney Dream to launch the competition, donned a school blazer with a name badge as he shared his insights on how UK-based primary school teachers can enter to win the unforgettable prize for themselves and their class.

"The best advice I can offer to teachers who are entering their class into the contest is to embrace fun and imagination in their entry video. Ultimately, they have a whole classroom of individuals who can inspire them with ideas. So, it's essential to foster as much creativity as possible."

After gaining permission to enter the competition on behalf of the school, teachers are invited to create and upload a maximum 60-second video showing why the teacher and their class want to set sail on The Ultimate School Trip with Disney Cruise Line. Entrants are advised to be as creative as possible in showing why they and their primary class want to set sail on The Ultimate School Trip with Disney Cruise Line. The winning teacher, along with their entire class and up to three guests each, will sail on the Disney Dream for a four-night UK sailing from 12th-16th August 2024.

The Ultimate School Trip with Disney Cruise Line will offer the winning teacher, class, and their guests the chance to experience all the Disney Cruise Line enchantment and wonder onboard, as well as the opportunity to learn from Disney professionals in a series of unique Disney lessons specially curated for the winners. The Disney crew members from the imaginative spaces onboard the Disney Dream, including Disney-themed entertainment, science lessons, and hospitality, will provide valuable insights and experiences that extend beyond the traditional classroom setting. From behind-the-scenes glimpses into the magic storytelling of Disney to interactive learning activities, this once-in-a-lifetime trip promises to inspire and captivate young minds in unforgettable ways.

Roman Kemp reflected on his own school experiences, saying: "I'm not sure if it's my absolute favourite memory from school, but one that's certainly unforgettable is when I portrayed the role of Alice in Alice in Wonderland. Yes, you heard it right. I played Alice, and to this day, it remains one of the most remarkable experiences at school." "My school experience has definitely influenced my career in broadcasting," Roman added. "During my time in school, the teachers I met taught me the importance of conversation and the necessity of having my voice heard. This realisation has been significant for me." Reflecting on memorable teachers from his childhood, Roman remarked: "I do recall certain teachers from my childhood, and one who stood out was my geography teacher, Mr. Turnbull. His charisma, energy, and enthusiasm left a lasting impression on me during my time in primary school."

But who would be in Roman’s dream team of teachers? "If I were to enlist celebrity colleagues as teachers," Roman pondered, "one standout choice would be Alan Carr. His way of making anything entertaining would surely liven up the classroom. And Jack Whitehall interacting with kids would be a hilarious experience, so he’d also be in my line-up."

TUI RIVER CRUISES ANNOUNCES ITS FIRST NEW BUILD SHIP ...

TUI ALMA

• Homeporting out of Porto, the 123-passenger ship will sail the Douro River from Spring* 2025, with the option of new TUI flying from London

  Gatwick to Porto

• Brand new build ship will be designed with customers in mind and joins four other ships in the portfolio

TUI River Cruises has announced they are expanding their portfolio with their first new build ship as part of its summer 2025 programme on sale tomorrow. The intimate ship will have four decks, 62 cabins and house 123 guests, and will be designed with flexibility in mind to cater for customer's needs.

TUI Alma, meaning Soul in Portuguese, will be purpose-built for Portugal’s River Douro, which is smaller than most European rivers and known for its dramatic countryside of steep gorges and terraced hills lined with vineyards.

TUI River Cruises launched in 2021 with TUI Isla, TUI Maya and TUI Skyla and recently announced a brand-new River Nile cruise set to commence in Winter 2024 on TUI Al Horeya.

Managing Director, Specialist Business, Chris Logan says: “This is a huge moment for TUI River Cruises and a defining moment in our journey. Given we only launched back in 2021 it’s a testament to the response of our customers that we’re able to deliver a newbuild ship. We’re so excited to create something amazing for our guests.

On sale now along with the rest of the summer 2025 programme, there will be seven-night sailings on the famous Portuguese river with relaxed daytime sailing and shore experiences available. Sailings will be based around Porto with a heavy focus on daytime sailing, this unique sailing allows customers to experience the beautiful Portuguese summer weather and amazing scenery. The ship will sail a five-location itinerary, starting in Porto, before arriving in Entre-os-Rios, then Peso de Regua, Vega de Terron and Barca d’Alva. The itinerary then circles back to Peso de Regua before finishing back in Porto.

“We’re designing the ship with true flexibility and choice in mind by making spaces different from day to night to allow the customer a choice of how to spend their day/evening onboard.”

Like the other TUI River Cruise ships, TUI Alma will be full board plus* as standard with the option for guests to upgrade to all-inclusive. The top deck will feature a shallow pool with seating areas, sun loungers, a bar and food service. There are also other choices for dining onboard that customers can enjoy, there’s the main restaurant serving breakfast through to dinner and a Portuguese inspired alfresco dining space where guests can enjoy a la carte dinner, and by day, will be a place for relaxation and unwinding.

Of the 62 cabins, TUI Alma will feature six standard balcony cabins and two suites.

The news also coincides with TUI River Cruises going on sale with its summer 2025 programme which features 21 itineraries across 12 countries. There are three new itineraries: a five-night sailing, Windmills & Waterways, in April 2025 in the Netherlands for Keukenho Gardens, with the addition of historic Hoorn as a new port of call.

Sail the Southern Rhine is a six-night sailing visiting Germany & Switzerland, and finally Danube Gems, a seven-night sailing which calls at some smaller ports of call along the Danube, perfect for customers who have already ticked off the bigger cities. TUI Maya and TUI Skyla will sail on the Danube whilst TUI Isla will operate on the Main, Moselle and the Rhine, all offering various durations from three night to 15-night sailings.

Head of River Cruises Katy Berzins says: “We’re so excited that TUI River Cruises are expanding. We’ve gone from the European waterways of the Rhine, Danube, Main and Moselle to our recently announced sailings on the Nile and now we get to offer our customers the chance to experience the Douro. Coupled with the option of TUI Flying means that we can truly own the end-to-end Customer Experience.”

SEADREAM YACHT CLUB UPGRADES FLEET WITH SHORE POWER CONNECTIVITY

Luxury boutique cruise line SeaDream Yacht Club will upgrade its entire fleet with shore power connectivity, enabling zero emissions in ports. Being able to connect to shoreside electricity enables the yachts to turn off their engines and reduce emissions to zero in ports that offer shore power facilities. The upgrades make SeaDream Yacht Club the first luxury cruise line to retrofit its entire fleet with shore power connectivity.

“This is a significant milestone and an important step in our journey to more sustainable cruising,” said Andreas Brynestad of SeaDream Yacht Club.

SeaDream II successfully underwent the upgrade during a recent planned yard-stay at Naval Rocha Yard in Lisbon, Portugal. Identical sister ship SeaDream I will be upgraded during her planned yard stay in April 2024.

“Visiting some of the most beautiful and spectacular destinations on the planet comes with a responsibility. We are committed to having a positive impact in the communities and destinations we visit. Our employees, our guests, and our partners are all an important part of our ambition to inspire more sustainable travel,” said Brynestad.

Since founding modern yacht cruising in 2001, SeaDream Yacht Club has shaped and defined boutique cruising as the antithesis of mass tourism. The recent upgrade of shore power capabilities marks the latest in a decades-long commitment to sustainability in luxury travel.

SeaDream’s yachting itineraries are optimized for slower speed and lower fuel consumption, significantly reducing fuel consumption and emissions compared to traditional cruises.

SeaDream was the first luxury cruise line to ban the use of cheap, polluting heavy fuel oil (HFO). Since 2013, the company has powered its yachts with lighter, less polluting fuel, significantly reducing emissions.

More than a decade ago, SeaDream Yacht Club was the first cruise line to introduce a full plant-based menu. Offering the widest selection of plant-based alternatives at sea, as well as sourcing more goods locally and minimising food waste, substantially contributes to a reduced carbon footprint.

SeaDream Yacht Club was the first luxury cruise line to eliminate unnecessary single-use plastic across the fleet, replacing plastic items with more sustainable options or removing single-use items altogether.

All SeaDream guests receive a personalised glass bottle, which can be refilled at water stations across the yachts, significantly reducing the number of plastic water bottles. In addition, biodegradable, organic luxury bath amenities from Elm Organics Norway are available in all staterooms and suites.

All SeaDream Yacht Club voyages include late-night departures, often with overnight stays, aiming to maximise time spent in port for deeper cultural immersion and enhance local value creation for local communities and businesses.

Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), the innovator in global cruise travel with a 57-year history of breaking boundaries,  celebrated the christening of Norwegian Viva, the Company’s highly anticipated newest vessel and the second ship in the award-winning Prima Class.

“To christen Norwegian Viva in Miami is incredibly special to many of us at NCL, not only because Miami is our hometown, but also because we can share this moment with our local family and friends,” said David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line. “Launching a ship is no solo endeavor. I am overwhelmed with gratitude towards the entire NCL team, our partners and especially our amazing crew who have contributed to bringing Norwegian Viva to life and who care for and deliver exceptional vacation experiences for our guests.”

Following Norwegian Viva’s debut this past August and its inaugural summer season of European voyages, over 1,500 guests joined the christening ceremony held in the Company’s LEED® Gold Certified terminal at PortMiami in November. The Prima Class is committed to breaking new ground in ship design and amenities, reflecting Norwegian Cruise Line’s unwavering dedication to putting the guest and onboard experience at the forefront.

“As a Company, it has been a milestone year with the debut of next-generation ships across all three of our best-in-class cruise brands, Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises,” said Harry Sommer, president & chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. “The addition of Norwegian Viva further elevates our world-class fleet, providing our valued guests with another incredible way to vacation, discover new experiences and create unforgettable memories. Since she launched in August, Norwegian Viva’s initial guest satisfaction scores have outshined any newbuild in the history of the NCL fleet, a testament to not only how stunning this ship is, but also the exceptional level of service and attention provided by our amazing crew on board.”

Luis Fonsi, Norwegian Viva’s godfather and GRAMMY® Award-nominated singer, songwriter, musician, and producer, officially named and christened the vessel with the ceremonial champagne bottle break across the ship’s hull which signifies good fortune and safe travels for all who sail aboard. As a native Puerto Rican, who is also based in Miami, Fonsi embodies the vibrant energy guests can enjoy aboard Norwegian Viva with warm-weather itineraries spanning from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean.

The celebration continues through the evening with an unparalleled and next-level entertainment lineup headlined by Fonsi performing his award-winning and global chart-topping hit “Despacito,” among his other beloved Latin hits like “No Me Doy Por Vencido” and “Échame La Culpa.” Other talented performers with authentic Miami and Latin roots are taking the stage, including "Saturday Night Live" cast member and Miami-native, Marcello Hernandez; the Queen of Latin Pop, Paulina Rubio; and recently announced GRAMMY® Award-nominated artist, Pedro Capó.

“It is so exciting to celebrate the magnificent Norwegian Viva in true Latin-style in Miami and alongside fellow A-list Latino entertainers,” said Luis Fonsi, award-winning global artist. “We are giving her a proper despedida before she makes her debut in my hometown of San Juan, Puerto Rico.”

Norwegian Viva’s christening festivities also included the unveiling and dedication of the Knut Kloster Hall, a newly added installation at the NCL Terminal that pays homage to the Company’s founder, Knut Kloster, and colourfully shares details on NCL’s 57-year history of innovation in the cruise industry.

At 294 meters long with the capacity for 3,099 guests, Norwegian Viva has unique, thrilling activities including the three-story Viva Speedway; elevated offerings such as Indulge Food Hall, an open-air food market featuring 11 unique eateries; and an awe-inspiring art collection with stand-out pieces including British digital artist Dominic Harris’ 52-foot-wide interactive work of art named “Every Wing has a Silver Lining” installed at the Metropolitan Bar.

Following the inaugural sailing and select voyages from Miami, the ship will reposition to San Juan, Puerto Rico and be the newest ship to homeport in the destination when she arrives on 15th December, 2023. Through March 2024, Norwegian Viva will offer port-intensive seven-day Caribbean voyages, where guests will wake up each day in a new tropical island paradise with calls to Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St. John's, Antigua; Bridgetown, Barbados; Castries, St. Lucia; Philipsburg, St. Maarten; and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands with no days at sea.

In April 2024, Norwegian Viva will return to sail Mediterranean and Greek Isles itineraries that offer an unmatched opportunity to experience the beauty and culture of Europe. In addition, NCL’s year-round ‘Free at Sea’ offer provides travellers with more value with vacation-enhancing benefits, including unlimited open bar, specialty dining, shore excursion credits, complimentary Wi-Fi and discounted rates for the third and fourth guests.

GeoCultura Launches New Tours for Curious Travellers

Explore the Isles of Scilly in 2024

GeoCultura LTD, a travel company that explores how history has been shaped by landscapes and geology, is releasing a new tour—The Isles of Sicily in 2024 for curious travelers. This exclusive, small group tour allows travellers to explore these picturesque islands found off the most south-westerly part of Cornwall, England. With activities ranging from boat excursions, guided walks, cycling, birdwatching, vineyard tours, and star gazing, there is something for travellers at all experience levels to take part in. Stargazing is a popular activity as the destination is officially known for having the UK’s darkest skies and features an observatory where travellers can explore the magnificent skies. Guests will be traveling like the royals do as the current British royal family has also been known to visit The Isles of Scilly for their holidays.

Guests will explore by passenger boat, accompanied by a local guide, two to three of the four inhabited “off-islands”, including Tresco, with its famous sub-tropical gardens. Weather permitting, there is also an option to visit an uninhabited island to see seabirds and evidence of historical settlements. In addition, local guides and guest speakers will help travelers make the most of this island by showing guests which wildlife to watch out for and helping them to discover the history behind some of the most striking landmarks and coastal landscapes. Island life runs at a slower pace than on the mainland, and GeoCultura’s itinerary reflects this. The weather also plays a part, so the itineraries will adapt to suit the weather and tides, taking into account the special requests of the group. Whatever the conditions, there will always be plenty to catch the traveller’s attention.

Accommodations on St. Mary’s Island will be provided during the 3 to 5-night trip at the historic Star Castle Hotel. This venue is an example of an Elizabethan fort, which was built in 1593, is steeped in history, and was converted to a hotel in 1933. Other experiences on this journey include a pre-dinner talk on maritime adventures and famous shipwrecks from one of Britain’s leading shipwreck experts. Enjoy pre-dinner drinks in the hotel’s Dungeon Bar and a nightly dinner at the award-winning restaurant in the former Officers’ Mess. Guests can savor the hotel’s freshly caught fish and award-winning appetizers.

The Isles of Scilly can only be reached by small plane from airports in Cornwall and Devon, by helicopter from Penzance Heliport, or by ferry from Penzance Harbour. While on the island guests will get around on foot and on small passenger boats for travel between the islands. To enjoy the full experience, a good level of fitness is required but the GeoCultura team is happy to discuss and advise. The Islands enjoy a mild climate, so for a quieter visit, April or October tour dates are recommended.

Rates start at $1,275 pp for a 3-night trip traveling in April 2024 to $1,594 in August or September 2024, including meals, fees, and transportation, once on the Islands. Advertised rates are based on a 3-night stay, with the option to extend the stay for an extra one or two nights for an additional supplement; Solo travellers are welcome and there is no surcharge. Meet local experts, entrepreneurs, and generations of Scillonians. Find out why they love living on Scilly. Discover the best that the scenic and very special Isles of Scilly have to offer, enjoy some island-hopping, and uncover tales of shipwrecks and settlers on these incredible islands.

Star of the Seas Will Mark the Next Bold Moment in a New Era of Holidays in Summer 2025

The world's largest cruise line will follow up Icon's debut, the start of a new era of holidays, in the boldest way. With the combination of every kind of holiday that's unique to Icon Class – from the beach retreat to the resort escape and the theme park adventure – the lineup of new experiences and favorites on Star will set the stage for even more ways for every type of family and adventurer to make memories without compromise. Currently under construction in Turku, Finland, the new ship and its features will soon be revealed.
"The idea of combining the best of every type of vacation into one ultimate adventure has created more excitement than ever anticipated, and Star of the Seas will be the next bold answer to the record-breaking consumer demand we've seen for nearly a year and counting with Icon of the Seas," said Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International.
The first look at Icon and Icon Class set the tone in October 2022 when it led to the cruise line's single largest booking day and highest volume booking week in the brand's then 53-year history. The unprecedented consumer demand sparked Royal Caribbean to release 2025-2026 holidays on Icon three months ahead of schedule and now Star's name and debut season. Icon's highlights include six record-breaking waterslides at Thrill Island's Category 6 waterpark, seven pools – one for every day of the week; Surfside, a stay-all-day neighbourhood for young families; entertainment across air, ice, water and stage; 40-plus ways to dine and drink; and more.
Star will also mark another step in this new era as the cruise line's third ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), combining the use of the cleanest-burning marine fuel available to date with a proven lineup of industry-leading environmental programs on board. With applications ranging from waste heat recovery systems to shore power connection, Royal Caribbean's most sustainable ship will advance parent company Royal Caribbean Group's journey to introducing a net-zero cruise ship by 2035.

Whilst You Are Away

When you arrive home, have a check around for any bugs before unpacking, look for reddish brown bugs, white eggs and dark spots (which is normally their faeces)

Keep Your Luggage on the Ground

Use the luggage rack which is normally provided to keep your bags off the floor, bed bugs tend to live in carpets. Do not put your bags or cases on the bed or chairs.

When You Return Home

When you return from your trip away from home, do not take your suitcase upstairs and unpack it on your bed - this is literally the worst thing you can do! If a few bed bugs have found their way into your case they will jump straight into your bed and start to multiply. Unpack your bag on a hard floor in a well lit area, this way you can see any bugs that may have come along on the ride with you. Pop your clothes straight into the washing machine, add a laundry cleanser or white vinegar and use the hottest cycle you can. IF you do notice bugs when unpacking, keep the clothes you aren’t washing in the case or a sealed bag and pop in the garage/shed until you are ready to wash them. Do not leave them in the house! Once your clothes have been taken care of, use a torch to thoroughly check your luggage, check the pockets and seams for bugs and eggs

.

Vacuum inside your luggage and spray the inside with a disinfectant spray. Be sure to empty the hoover cannister into an outdoor bin to prevent captured bed bugs from re-infesting your home. If you have a hard-shell case, you can wash this over with hot soapy water and if you have a soft case break out the steam cleaner and give it a blast with hot steam.

How to Prevent them in Your Bed

Keep your bedroom clutter free, bed bugs love dark cluttered spaces, and can easily hide in mess. If you keep your laundry hamper in your bedroom, make sure you give it a regular clean, bed bugs love the smell of dirty clothes, and have been known to lay eggs in laundry hampers. Fabric hampers normally come apart and can be washed. Plastic ones can be washed over with hot soapy water. Regularly wash your bed sheets at a high temperature. When you change your sheets, vacuum the mattress and surrounding frame.

Keep your mattress clean. Deal with any stains as and when they occur. Hydrogen peroxide is the best mattress stain remover as it is a natural bleach, a few times a year deep clean your mattress using an upholstery cleaning tool or a steam cleaner. Try not to use the underneath or your bed unless you have an ottoman bed as a storage solution, as this will create clutter for them to live in. Avoid wearing shoes in your bedroom. Vacuum your carpet and rugs regularly.

If you suspect you have bed bugs, it is vital to address promptly. Consult with a pest control company who will eliminate the problem. Early detection is key and will prevent a full-blown infestation.
